CV
You can view my CV here. Bio Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College. I was formerly an International Security Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University and a Hans J. Morgenthau Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. My research focuses on civilian victimization during civil wars with a particular focus on using historical archival data to further our understanding of contemporary conflicts. Other research interests include the origins of rebellion, state-building during civil war, economic warfare, and the uses and abuses of historical data in causal inference techniques. In August 2025, I finished my PhD in Political Science at George Washington University. In the book project building off my dissertation, I explore why states target civilian economies with violence during civil wars and the conditions when such violence advances or hinders their goal of weakening insurgent opponents. To test my arguments, I leverage extensive qualitative and quantitative archival research from the American War in Vietnam. Additionally, I illustrate the scope of economic violence by state forces in all major civil wars after 1945 and provide additional qualitative case studies, including additional primary source evidence from the French War in Indochina and Soviet War in Afghanistan. My research has been published or is forthcoming in Perspectives on Politics, Texas National Security Review, and the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies. Beyond my research, I design and publish educational tabletop games to synthesize historical and political science research on conflict into a more accessible format for the general public, students, and policymakers. My games have reached thousands of players across the globe and used in a wide variety of educational institutions ranging from AP World History classes to the U.S. Army War College's course on counterinsurgency.
